Wavy hair may be a popular hairstyle, but flaves will be seen a lot more this spring and summer. Which style will be your go-to this season? Will you choose the traditional route and stick to classic waves or will you be a trend setter and opt for flaves?
Waves
The hairstyle: Wavy hair is a style that not only infuses volume into the hair, but also lots of movement. The slight bends are alluring and the different variations let you pull off tons of different looks: Glamorous retro Hollywood waves, relaxed boho chic beach waves... the possibilities are endless!
The style: One important thing to keep in mind is that your hair and makeup should always compliment the wavy hairstyle you choose. If you go for a glamorous style, red lipstick and a chic turtle neck would look great together. If your waves are on the beachy side, a pretty printed blouse with a smoky eye would pair perfectly.
What the editors say: Just like straight hair and curly hair, wavy hair has become a timeless style that we'll be seeing a lot of in the seasons to come. No matter the shape, size or style, one thing's for certain: waves are here to stay!
Flaves
The hairstyle: Flaves are 'flat waves' – they're an exaggerated, more defined version of waves that makes your hair look shiny and polished.
The style: Flaves are a cross between a graphic and glamorous style and look best with a preppy outfit. When they're brushed through they become more voluminous and almost look like curls.
What the editors say: One thing to keep in mind is that flaves are just a variation of wavy hair, and will never replace waves. We find them to be very flattering and they have a 1930s air about them. They can add instant sophistication to any look.
