Looking for ways to make your everyday hair bun more exciting? Here are two different takes that still offer the practical benefits of a bun, but have a little extra personality...
The half-up bun
The advantage of a bun is that it keeps your hair up and out of your face, and elongates the shape of your neck and head. A downside, however, is that you can't show off the lengths of your hair –meaning that any color or styling is hidden. Not with a half-up bun! By pulling only the top section up into a high chignon, your face remains free, but you can still show off the lengths of your hair at the back.
Styling tip: use a texturizing hairspray to give your hair a modern, messy finish. We love the Powder-In-Lotion by Tecni.ART, perfect for creating tousled layers.
The braided bun
At first sight this may look like a regular messy bun. But take another look and you'll notice the subtle braid woven into the side. Not only does this keep potential flyaways in check, but it also shows off the different colors in your hair, as they weave around each other. The key to this look is to keep the braid ultra-loose so it resembles natural waves.
Styling tip: Give the bun at the back a bit of a boost (try saying that quickly!) with some volumizing spray like the Savage Panache hairspray by Wild Stylers. Simply spray onto the hair from the mid-length down and use a comb to tease out maximum volume.
