Who said that chic hair had to be complicated? One of our favorite hair accessories for a stylish look, and also the most simple, is the classic bobby pin. Here's how to style your hair by using a single bobby pin: your go-to hair accessory!
The bobby pin: from 1920 - today
Legend has it that the "bobby" pin got its name because it was first used to hold the short, cropped bobs that became so fashionable in the 1920s. Since then, the bobby pin, also known as a Kirby grip, has been rolled out as a key hair accessory for all styles, even becoming a feature - as with this example of a sleek, sideswept look.
How to style a sideswept look with a bobby pin
Usually, bobby pins are positioned to be invisible. Not here! This sideswept look celebrates the simple hair accessory and puts it on center-stage. Here's how you can get the look in 4 easy steps:
1. Tame and detangle
Smooth, strong hair is what you need for this look, so apply a smoothing leave-in cream after washing to make sure you don't damage the hair when combing through. Professionals love the Inforcer Anti-Breakage Cream by Série Expert, infused with strengthening vitamin b6 and biotin.
2. Flip and dry
Whip your hair, not back and forth, but into a deep side part, and get a clear definition by using a tail comb. Then apply the concentrator nozzle to your blowdryer, turn the temperature down, and dry the hair at a downward angle, making sure to start right at the roots. Dry to 90% to keep some moisture in the hair.
3. Comb and pin
Take your comb again to ensure the side part is spot-on. When combing over the top of the head, stop when you are parallel with the arch of the eyebrow, and slide a large bobby pin through the hair to secure in place. Brush the lengths of the hair behind your ears.
4. Silk and shine
Apply 1-2 drops of serum - such as the Liss Unlimited Double Serum by Série Expert - to your palm, and rub your hands together. Gently run them down the hair, focusing on the lengths and ends for hydrated, silky hair and high shine.
That's all there is to it... Bravo, Bobby!
