How to protect your hair from the cold

With the summer months a far-away memory, it's important to update your haircare routine for the chilly weather. As the temperatures drop, moisture levels do as well, resulting in dry, brittle and lackluster hair. Don't let the weather take the shine out of your hair - follow these 5 tips below.

Deep condition at least once a week

Fight against dry hair by using a deep conditioning hair mask at least once a week, like the Absolut Repair Lipidium Instant Reconstructing Masque. Try to avoid washing your hair too often as it strips hair of its natural oils – also if the water's too hot, it can dry out your hair further.

Try not to brush your hair too often

The more your brush your hair the more it's prone to breakage. Consider using a natural bristle brush, as plastic and nylon brushes can increase static.

Blow-dry your hair before going out

It's important to blow-dry or at least air dry your hair completely before leaving the house, otherwise hair can freeze and turn stiff. Consider using an ionic hairdryer to fight static and if you have curly hair, a diffuser is a great option to get your curls dry, but keep them well-defined.

Increase moisture levels in the air

Indoor heating dries the air out in your house, so it may be worth investing in a humidifier to add moisture to the air. The more moisture there is in the air, the better hydrated your hair will be.

Get a regular trim

All of the above steps will work best if your hair is healthy – get a regular trim every six to eight weeks to get rid of split ends, especially if you have a bob haircut.
