Anyone with naturally curly hair knows that winter can cause havoc to curls. From drizzle frizz, to windy tangles and soggy locks, not to mention volume-crushing hats, here's how to beat the banes of winter and have glorious curls all season long!
Step one: curl enhancing haircare
Ensure your hair is strong and ready for anything before you face the perils of winter. We recommend using the shampoo, cleansing conditioner and masque from the Curl Contour collection by Serie Expert. For an in-salon option, the Curl Contour cleansing conditioner offers a low-lather, silicon-free, sulphate-free and paraben-free complement to your hair treatment, for detangled and defined curls.
Step two: curl support and hold
Even the bounciest of curls need a helping hand in winter. To give them the strength they need to stay at their best, whatever the weather, try the Hollywood Waves hair styling collection. A favourite of ours is the Spiral Queen nourishing mousse. Scrunch into towel-dried hair before blowdrying and styling as normal.
Step three: tips for out and about
If you can't avoid going out in bad weather, here are our top three tips for protecting your curls:
If you absolutely have to tie up your curls, use a soft scrunchie instead of an elastic which can damaged hair and misshape the curls.
Tuck hair into your collar when windy. This keeps curls under control, protects them from rain and prevents tangles.
Take an umbrella instead of a hat when raining. Hats can cause frizz due to the material rubbing against the hair fibre, and the humidity created underneath the hat makes it worse. Certain hat materials can also irritate sensitive scalps.
