If you're looking to add a bit of brightness to your locks this summer but don't know if you should choose hair strobing or hair contouring, we give you the low-down on each!
The color: Highlights are strategically placed in the hair to change the appearance of the face shape and make it look more oval, rounder or squarer. Your hairstylist will use a mix of light and dark highlights to create the optical illusion.
What the editors say: Hair contouring is fairly low-maintenance, but we recommend using products from the Lumino Contrast line from L'Oréal Professionnel to keep your highlights looking vibrant weeks after your salon visit.
The color: Hair strobing is a fairly new trend that's based off of the makeup trend of strobing. The technique is similar to hair contouring in the sense that highlights are added to the hair to bring more attention to certain areas of the face. However, it's even more personalized than hair contouring because it takes a person's individual hair color, face shape and skin tone into consideration in order to determine what color highlights would look best in the hair, and where.
The style: Just like hair contouring, wavy hairstyles look gorgeous with this style. However feel free to show it off in lots of different ways, whether it be a lob, a bun or even a beautiful half-up half-down style.
What the editors say: Hair strobing is a bit more intricate than hair contouring but the end result will look very natural. It's also a great coloring technique for summer because the sun will make your hair absolutely glisten in the natural light.
