Another revenant from the 90's – the choker is back but not as you knew it! This time it's working with your hair... Will you dare?
All tied up
Spotted on the the runway at the Jonathan Simkhai Ready to Wear Fall/Winter 2018-2019 during New York Fashion Week and before that at Dior, slowly creeping into the collective conscience, the hair choker is becoming a thing.
If you thought you'd seen the back of chokers, you'd be wrong! But here it is back with a brand new invention. It'll grab a hold of you tightly, daily and nightly...
Tuck that hair
Remember the hair tuck? We first saw that way back in 2011 when it popped up on Celine's catwalk thanks to Pheobe Philo with models who were clearly too cool for school, and much too cool to "un-tuck" that hair. Well, this time around there's no hair stuffed in your sweater, it's simply tucked into a choker offering a similar silhouette but in a more loose, flowing, ingénue yet sexy kind of way.
Top tip: Use a silk scarf, necklace or traditional choker to create the effect. Want to add some oomph? Try a fluorescent shoelace for added street kudos! Generally get creative to jazz it up.
3 reasons to love it
Firstly it's flattering on the cheekbones – so it'll make you look pretty.
Secondly it's right on trend, with the likes of Mary Katrantzou and Christopher Kane adopting the style. So who are we to argue!
Thirdly it's kooky cool and different and versatile since you can use anything from classic black ribbon chokers like Gigi Hadid did, or jewellery or silk scarves with funky patterns so you can really make it your own!
