David Bowie (real name David Robert Jones, 1992–2016) was an inspiration to many. His music, words and style would, as he sang it, make ch-ch-ch-ch-changes all over the world.
His out-there, don't-care style was a liberating breath of fresh air, and the ripples are still felt today in the worlds of fashion, makeup and hairstyle. Take the Maison Margiela spring/summer 2016 couture show for example, which was heavily inspired by Bowie's Aladdin Sane/Ziggy Stardust character.
"Oh! You Pretty Things"
Red hair is ruling the runway at the moment, in a rich array of shades: from russet to strawberry blonde and auburn tones. David Bowie's signature locks were a mesmerizing shade of bright orange that he was never afraid to style in unexpected ways.
"Wild is the Wind"
This Maison Margiela style is a take on the iconic mullet cut that Bowie's Aladdin Sane wore, with choppy layers making it neither a short nor a mid-length cut. Hair extensions on the earring give the impression of longer lengths. For a less intense but similar cut, ask your stylist for choppy bangs and a lot of layers. It's a good way to thin down thick hair, although not recommended for fine locks.
Honor Bowie's memory by never being afraid of color and accessorizing with unexpected combinations. Bold lipstick will look less intense if your hair and outfit are out-there too. That hand necklace and over-the-eye glitter would definitely have got the thumbs up from Bowie.
