A look back at the most popular hair words of 2016

Here at Hair Trend News, we take a look back at the biggest styles and looks from 2016, before daring to make a guess at what 2017 might have in store for our hair...

The lovely Lob (long bob)

Sitting pretty around the shoulders the lob was the 2016 go-to style of choice for celebrities and mere mortals alike. The flexibility of this style means it can look chic and put-together with blunt bangs, or fun and flirty with messy waves.

Silver princess

No, no, we don't say gray over here at Hair Trend News - it's #silver that had us all mad for metallics in 2016. Different shades of...silver can give hair depth and volume.

Oh la la, French Girl Hair

The epitome of effortless glamour, those Parisian ladies know exactly how to wear their long, wavy brunette locks with a subtle ombré that finishes on a honeyed high note.

Do the twist with Braids

A multitude of different ways of weaving/plaiting/braiding hair came on our radar last year. From big messy fishtails to subtle braids behind the ear and braided crowns, we loved showing off our creativity.

The timeless Ponytail

It seems we never stop looking for more ways to spice up the classic ponytail, such as this pretty velvet ribbon that reins in (excuse the pun) a voluminous ponytail.

Hair words to watch for 2017

Where will 2017 take us? Well, if our trend trackers are tuned to the right frequency, here are some of the words you might be hearing a lot of:

No-heat styling: We've learnt that heat can do some serious damage to our hair, so the race is now on for ways to style without turning the temperature up.

Natural hairstyles: Out with forced-looking, high-maintenance hair, 2017 promises a return to more natural looks. Back to Mother Nature.

The Shag: Fashion is making her full circle, and the Seventies shag 'do has decided that 2017 is the year for a comeback, rock n'roll style.

Glitter roots: Sure, color on the tips and down the length of the hair is fun, but what about switching things around and going back to our roots? Glitter, or rainbow, roots first popped up in late 2016 - will they stick around for 2017?
