Turn your back on 2017, but make sure it doesn't forget you in a hurry by seeing in the new year with a striking take on the classic ponytail. Whip 2018 into shape before it's even started...
Rethink your hair elastic
When it comes to ponytails, usually the only questions we ask ourselves are "high or low?" and "what color elastic?" But now we can add a new dilemma to the list: "how much tie are you willing to try?"
Take a look at this standout runway look where, instead of a shy elastic band, the hair is tied up using a matt black ribbon which is then wrapped around and down the hair almost to the ends. The result takes a regular ponytail from a tame trot to dressage-worthy!
Recreating the look
Alongside an invisible elastic and a matt velvet ribbon (or your texture of choice), don't forget the right hair styling products!
First thing's first, you don't want any troublesome flyaways ruining your catwalk-inspired style, so rub a few drops of Mythic Oil's Huile Originale into your palms and smooth down the lengths and tips of damp or dry hair. Then, use a flat paddle brush to detangle and make your hair super sleek before tying into a low pony using your clear elastic.
Tuck one end of your ribbon into the elastic and wrap around the base of the hair, then slowly wrap the ribbon (quite) tightly around and down the lengths, stopping ¾ of the way down. To fix in place, either tie and tuck with an elastic as you did before, or use a bobby pin to secure the end of the ribbon at the back of the ponytail. This way, the pin will fall against your neck/upper back and stay invisible.
Professional tip: even if your hair feels secure, always finish a styled look with a hairspray like L'Oréal Professionnel's Infinium Pure . This will not only provide glossy shine, but ensure your hair doesn't frizz or come loose over time. You won't regret it!
